Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten models have been studied for 30 years.
Many of its rich and deep mathematical structures
are still to be understood. In this talk, I will give a survey on
the studies of some of the most fundamental mathematical
properties of these models, including operator product expansion,
the factorization property, modular invariance, and the modular
tensor category structure. In particular, I will discuss a recent discovery
that the Verlinde formula for these models in fact plays a crucial role
in the proof of the rigidity of the tensor categories associated
to these models and will also discuss the new perspective that this
discovery brought to us.
